VIDEO GROUP ASSIGNMENT
"I worked with Cherry last semester and she took on the role as the group leader, which she was extremely fit for. being inspirational, dedicated and hardworking. Third Rank
I choose this achievement because this is my first time to join a competition in a province level. It is about the Mandarin competition that is held officially by China. There are three categories that need to be performed in this competition which are a mandarin speech, performing talent and a knowledge regard China.
Basically in my home country, they are selecting the national’s ambassador to compete in international level from many areas. Meanwhile, the one I was participated on was in the provincial level only. I manage to get the third rank from the competition out of 13 participants, but unluckily they only take the first rank and runner-up in order to proceed to national level competition before to the international ones. It was sad to know that there is a slightly score differences with the runner-up.
We managed to get above average mark which is 16 out of 20. I am showcasing this achievement since this is the first time for me to be a leader in a group assignment in university’s life. It is a Creative and Critical Thinking subject which consists of 7 people in a group. The topic we choose is in providing a creative solution from the problem big waste in tissue paper among Taylorians. The form that we submit to the lecturer was in a video and proposal to create an event.
I could say I am lucky enough to have a collaborative member where all of us doing our best in contributing effort to get a good mark. Moreover, we have a language barrier as members in group have different languages background (majority speak Chinese, others English and Malay), but I don’t categorized it as an obstacle since all of us never misunderstanding each other in executing the project.
I have learned the importance of tolerance, empathy, support and covered up each member weaknesses in a group is a must. This is because all of us aren’t a perfect human and that is the objective on why we need to have a group work. Meanwhile as a leader I had realized a need of empowering each member to voice out their ideas and give a freedom to decide on small things. Motivating also is crucial to lead them in reaching our group’s goal. Based on that, I will keep improve my skills in being an appropriate leader for next group’s assignment.
Even though I have prepared on the speech and talent performing, I realized that I am actually not read enough book in preparing knowledge about China in order to answer the test. I know that I am not type of person whose learning style is reading. However, I still need to tackle it in order to improve and prepared myself to be ready every moment.
Through the experience, I have learned that opportunity always come in front of our eyes in a sudden way and it only serve to those who are brave and ready to take the chance. As for it, now I have started in spending my time to prepare my knowledge through reading a page of a random book every day. I believe that a small piece of information will become a pile of knowledge at the end of the day and it motivates me to constantly reading every day. I just hope with my little effort, I ready to challenge myself with the upcoming opportunity as a goal that I need to achieve on.
