“People plan, but no execution is called as Dreaming. However if people execute, but without a plan is called as Nightmare

The third speaker is talking about how to create a change that is able to sustain for a period of time and how we as a student can take action toward the issue they passionate on and that has been happened in the world right now. He believes that if the 3 components are gathered together, then eventually the sustainable change as the theme session will be achieved easily.

He starts his session with the questions of what are 3 parts of the body that can define what is ‘change’ and ‘no change’.Therefore, here are the differences in between:

Change:

- a heart that full of dissatisfaction  (never conform with how bad the reality in this world will be)

- a mind that change the sympathy to empathy ( both are putting themselves in the shoes of the others feeling, but there is a difference between them which is taking action on it)

- a hand that take action (execution)

Not Change:

- a heart that is conform (the one that is just accept anything that has been exist in the world)

- a mind that find excuses (the mind that blame something on others due to the failure)

- a hand that is pointing to someone (unable to take responsibility on the things they have done, not taking ownership, people tend to assume that others will do on behalf of them)

Besides defining on what is meant by change, the speaker request the participant to have a conversation in pair. We are required to discuss about what are the significant issue that you have noticed on the world nowadays, the skills that you capable and interested on.After that, he introduce a framework which consists of 3 different circles and they are:

b. Cause

It is about the value that a person has which they are willing to sacrifice their resources (could be a time, money or energy) in order to do something.  It is about what problem that matters you the most in this world. It could be a hunger, globalization, haze, etc. What kind of change that you are able to contribute to those issue.

Just need to remember that, “Every cause or problem that happen in this world, there will be always a thing called as solution!“

a. Leadership

It is the influence and consistency with the result oriented that a leader able to ensure it is generated together with their team. Leader can gather their follower to work toward the change that they all believe in as a team.

In addition, the pathway of leadership is not easy, as it is not about the position after all. There won’t be point as a leader, if there is no follower that believe in what they do.  A leader tend to treasure their first and second follower well as they believe both people are the one that support the existence of a leader. After all, it will attract even more followers to be part of their community.

c. Passion

It is the long term fuel that is able to support a person throughout the suffering pathway in creating a change. It is what a person like and enjoy to do without even think that is a job, but more on the sense of self-accomplishment.

Your capability, skills and resources that you have in supporting you and how it can make a different change on this world.

If there is only the combination of:

  1. Cause + Passion= as there is no people that lead the initiatives to a greater height, it won’t be last longer and therefore less impact.

  2. Leadership + Passion= it will be a great product and service with a great leadership, however there won’t be a feeling of satisfaction in contributing back to the community in the long term run.

  3. Cause + Leadership= It will be simply doing because of the need to do it, as there is no passion that enable a person to enjoy the things that they have done.

The word well said, as it is not people follow the leader, but is because the belief in certain cause that a leader has which sufficient to attract people in joining their forces.

Another term, if all those 3 components are completed is called as: Sweet Spot or A Sustainable Change. Such sweet spot cases will be appear as TOMS Shoes who is tackling the issues of growing children without wearing shoes in their daily life activities. Therefore TOMS Shoes team works together by giving ones free shoe to society for every time one customer have purchased their shoes.

Lastly, what happen if some of the criteria is not completed while creating a change? It won’t be sustainable! Why?
