A well-spent weekend with the representative of Entreprenuer University facilitator and AIESECers in Taylor's University

iM4U DESIGN THINKING WORKSHOP

ACTIVITY 1 : Recipes for designing innovative product

We are given a task to draw a wallet/purse to the people besides you (partner). After that, we are required to have a short session in getting to know them better. We are talk about the basic thing, such as: what are their goal in their life and challenges, their preference and passion toward something and we as the observer will put some insight on it. Based on the findings, we are required to generate a lot of alternative to cater their current need. At the end, it turns out that the partner need has been changed and is no longer a wallet. And surprisingly, we need to create on the spot the respective new product prototype that we have sketched within 5 minutes time.

In this case, my partner needs a scheduling system for herself as a reminder for her, so that she can tackle her absent-minded habit. Therefore, a wholly new product has been designed for her as it turns out each of the to do list will be put inside a straw and each of them will be labeled by the post it note with the different kind of color as the notification for the urgency level. Toward her goal as a financial consultant in future, this portable reminder will remind her in what the long term action that she need to take instead of depending on its electronic devices. .

After the activity has been done, it teaches us on how important the feedback that has been given by our partner which can be a critical contribution in determining the next step in improving the product. It could be about what works, what can be improved, questions or new input.

P/s:

Innovative idea doesn’t need to take few hours to generate it, but few minutes will do! The more you think, the more the weird idea will be covered and hidden, due to the logical thinking that human in nature has.

Innovative product is all about whether is a need, not what you want! It is not making something that you want people to have it, but it is all about to create an innovation product that people need it.

We are being given a chance to choose 1 out of 2 social issues block. They are Education and Environment issue. As for that, we have decided to focus on Education as our topic. We are required to follow the instruction that has been given from the beginning till the end.

ACTIVITY 2 : Sit down and discuss Social Issue !

At first, we need to brainstorm all the possibilities as the cause of the education issue in Malaysia context. After that, we are required to categorize them properly and choose 3 major problems of the cause out of 30s possibilities that has been listed out.

Lastly, we have to come out with the final statement of "what as in the problem statement, who is being affected, why as the root cause and how as in the solution".

There will be a session for us to validate the above statement through a special activities. Want to know more about that? A day with the special challenge!

Then, we are required to analysis the eco-system around the issue on who should be responsible, its role and contribution to the issue. Next, we are required to draw a sequence for the flow of the issue from starting point till the outcome. We have been taught many kind of timeline based on the need, such as:  narrative, timeline, process and value chain. And after that, we need to find the possible problem that might come out along the timeline and identify the repetition category that might be the pattern/trend.
